Eh...just not impressed....Nothing bad, just nothing great. I feel the menu is rather limited. I shared an order of nachos with some people I was with and they were very typical..nothing stood out. I have been here for drinks too and again, everything was just ok. I never come here by choice, just if others decide on it. On a side note...my dad brings my dog here sometimes for lunch to the outdoor seating and they always bring her a bowl of water and even some fried. For that...I appreciate this place :)

Wasn't expecting great food because of some of the reviews I had seen but was very surprised. The food was great and they were willing to substitute for me the side. I enjoyed a well cooked salmon dinner and enjoyed happy hour beers also. I will be back.

I was traveling through on business and stopped in for a bite to eat and a drink with some co-workers. The waitstaff and bartender were very personable and friendly from the minute I walked in. I have read some of the reviews on here and honestly, I find the negative ones to be very far from my experience. We ordered several appetizers which were delicious! Highly recommend the Blue Cheese Chips and Shrimp Cocktail. The meals we got were also very good. Homemade mashed potatoes that were clearly made that day alongside steamed asparagus. In fact, all of the food tasted like it was freshly cooked from scratch -- a welcome treat and change of pace from the normal type of meals you get on the road! Good cooking that reminded me of a home cooked meal, not some pre-packaged, flash frozen, microwaved entree. What really struck me, though, was how this is the type of spot where EVERYONE fits in. Very kid friendly in the dining area and very "neighborhood pub"-like in the bar area. A place where I would bring my family or go for a few drinks and yuck it up with the guys. Frankly, if you are looking for white table cloths and a stuffy atmosphere, this is not the place for you. If you want a comfortable place to unwind and enjoy good food, great service and a friendly atmosphere, you can't do much better than Truman's!

My husband and I were so excited for a neighborhood restaurant and bar on this side of the Ranch. We decided to stop in during lunch for a beer and an appetizer. Service was very very slow and there was not many people in the place. The appetizer we ordered was the bay shrimp took forever. OMG it was awful. Not fresh. Tiny. The shrimp cocktail was just ketchup. We didn't even bother to ask for horseradish to doctor it up because of the response time. Highly disappointed!

This was our first time eating at Truman's. And it was our last. The service was the ONLY good thing about the place. -The bar smelled liked the bathroom. -There was only one app ordered: crab cakes. They looked like they were frozen. They did not taste much like crab and they were mushy. This is what we ordered for lunch: 1. Fish & Chips - too much breading and soggy in the middle. 2. Buffalo Chicken Salad - the buffalo sauce was really salty and the fire sauce was not hot at all. The blue cheese dressing was very salty too. 3. Meatloaf - it looked and tasted like a burger. Meatloaf should be thicker and have a gravy. It was really thin and flat and the brown sauce seemed like there was a pound of salt in it. There was no flavor, just salt. So this made the mashed potatoes extra salty too. 4. Fish Tacos - this is what I ordered. The fish was dry and it was a lot spicer than expected. I don't mind the heat but it took over. I couldn't taste anything else! And to top it off: with 2 beers and 2 cokes, the bill was $75! Overall - the food was awful and expensive and not worth a single penny!

We live just down the road from this place so we decided to go here with some of our neighbors. I wasn't expecting anything more than bar food and that's what we got - below average bar food. Look, I knew what I was getting myself into. I really just wanted a couple of beers, and that part was fine. They had a decent selection on tap. Can't complain. The food was pretty bad though. Nobody seemed particularly thrilled with their food, but again, it's bar food. I would come here to drink but would probably skip on the food. Also, we sat outside so it took a while to get our drinks from the bar.

Great food, great service! Can't wait to go back again. Next time I'll take the kids.

    1. We did not try to bar- no comment. 2. My husband had the patty melt. The sandwich was not bad but the french fries were awful. He said he would rather go to McDonalds. "How can you screw up french fries, comeon!" 3. Service was kind and timely. 4. I had the shrimp pasta and the pasta was 10 minutes overcooked at least (floppy and mushy). The shrimp was hard and unappetizing and the sauce tasted similar to canned clam juice with an old shrimpy taste underneath. 5. My brother got the pulled pork sandwich, which was ok. I've had better. It was a little sweeter than I would have hoped. I was excited about the small menu because it usually promises a quality choice of food, but I'm afraid this is absolutely not the case. I'm not going back.

Not sure what the gripes are about. I visit frequently and food is above average. Service excellent, ice cold beer and friendly service. And most of all prices are reasonable for food & drink.

Great food and selection of beers! Hamburger very tasty--shrimp was excellent!

No service.. tried to get a beer and some wings at the bar. No one would help me. I just left. I try my best to support Lakewood ranch business. I wanted to write them but their web site is down.

If it wasn't their first month in business, I would have given them 1 star. I ate there with my daughter on a week night. The place was not packed, and the service what absolutely horrible. It took 5-10 minutes just to get a drink order, and then took another 10 minutes for our apple juice and sodas to be delivered to our table. That is how the whole night went. I was hoping for the food to be better, but it was down right boring, and the menu is tiny. I hope that this is because it is new, and that they are still updating the menu and waiting for new cooking supplies to come in. I ordered the portabella mushroom sandwich. It was a marinated mushroom covered with cheese on a cheap and dry bun, no grilled veggies, sauce, or anything. The mushroom was also tiny and overwhelmed by the bun. The fries seemed like something you get from the frozen isle at Publix, and my daughters mac and cheese tasted just like Kraft's. it also looked like it had been sitting for a while. I watched other plates come out, and not only could you see the annoyance on the other patron's faces concerning the service, but their food looked just as boring. I am very surprised by the lack of quality. I really didn't expect great service from a brand new restaurant, but I did expect more out of the food. I was so excited to have a new restaurant in Lakewood Ranch. If the restaurant is still open in a few months I will try again, and if it is better I will give them a better review. So far they are off to a bad start.

They have the best burgers!! My daughter raves over the French Fries also. Family friendly place.

Terrific service, excellent atmosphere as well as great martinis and food!! The blue cheese chips are amazing and the best salmon BLT I have ever had. Prompt service and far exceeded my expectations! I tried 4 of their specialty martinis and were all fantastic! Definitely going back to this place when I am in town and you should check it out as you will not be disappointed!!!

  • Allen S.

Food is really good! Hamburger tastes like real meat instead of the typical preformed frozen patties, Salmon Blt was also tasty. Chicken sandwich would have been much better on bun that the burger came on instead of the chibata. Service needs some improvement but this was the first week open so i am sure it will improve. I would try this place again for sure. Truly an asset to Lakewood ranch!

Holy Smokes!!!! What luck to have found this place. Great Food~Great Prices~Happy Hour~Bar and Family Dining~and Excellent Specials. Watch out Lakewood Ranch. There's a new restaurant in town that is sure to become the go-to place for friends and family alike. A big shout out to the owners, John and Tara! Well played and keep up the good work.

Guinness on tap, that's a good start. Clean and friendly, all good. Just a little boring. Nice place, but maybe not quite for me.

I have given Truman's 3 times to impress me and they just haven't. The service is awful and the food on all 3 occasions has be lukewarm at best.

We eat here often, yes as earlier reviews stated there were issues early in the start-up.But as of now it has a neighborly bar feel with good food and reasonable drink specials. Give it another try if you were not happy before.

We've ordered takeout three times and the first time was the best. It's been downhill ever since. Items: 1. Blue Cheese Potato Chips - very good... 2. Patty Melt - Okay/Good - We've had mixed results. 3. Burgers - bland, dry and usually overcooked. 4 Nachos - Blech!! Dry nasty chili makes a sloppy mess that doesn't taste good and topped with jalapenos from a jar. These are one step above 7-Eleven fodder. 5. Service - Always slow and the food is always cold even though we live five minutes away. You usually have to wait ten minutes to checkout. Not worth the money. Maybe good for drinks but we've never indulged.

Cool place with a nice interior. The burgers are excellent. The bar area is nice to sit and have some drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Most of the food is okay but it could be better. The prices of the food are fair but there aren't many drink specials. The burger is my favorite menu item.

Great new eatery in the LWR area. Good food and a very reasonable HR. One of the partners is a former mgr. @ McCallisters on Main St. Really a good guy, except he's a L'ville Cardinal fan. Go Mountaineers and on to the Big Twelve. Hopefully, The Ville will follow soon. Not a bad "semi-sports bar either. Give it a try.

I promised myself the last time was the last time I would go, but thought I would give it one last try. Very surprised that there was no wait on a Friday at dinner time, should have stopped then and left. The service was okay, but the food wasn't hot. Queso was cold and lumpy, the Truman burger was cooked to perfection, but left too long to be served, arrived cold. The portobello sandwich was a hit tho. Would have told the owner, but he was too concerned with the basketball game he was watching. Shame, used to be a great local place, but guess the word is getting out.

This place started out strong and just got progressively worse. Went there for dinner Friday night during season and that was my last time. Barely anyone in the dining area. The food wasn't bad but came out lukewarm, not good. The owner was too busy watching tv to notice anyone was in the restaurant...my suggestion go elsewhere for a decent meal!

The exterior elevation catches your eye as a place to catch a quick bite. The interior makes a different statement. They appear to be a tavern by the signage however it's a bar that thinks it has a restaurant. The food quality is similar to the decor and your first impression is to turn around and find another place. Our server was friendly and professional yet not formerly trained to serve. Robert Irvine would have a field day!

Great local place!! The bar is clean and atmosphere is great. The food is amazing for bar food. It is not just burgers and wings. There are options for people who like real food. Staff is super friendly! I really love this place.

Service sucks anytime of the week. The bathrooms are disgusting. The food is typical bar food leaving a lot to the imagination. I'm really not a hater just this place is in need of good management. The current manager is running the place in the ground. Like the saying goes to many Indians and not enough chiefs. This place has potential but needs management that cares about its patrons.

Ate here tonight for a change and surprised to find the place almost empty, hmmm. Makes you think. Nice atmosphere and wait staff very friendly and attentive. Also appreciated the Team USA pin on the waiter :0). Chowder was excellent, beer was cold, jambalaya was good and really filling, chicken picata was so-so, lacked lemon bit still okay. Think the burgers and sandwiches are more the favorites here and will head that way next time. Live music was entertaining, song selection was more our parents maybe explaining the age group. Still a decent experience.

Being that Truman's is extremely close to home and one of the few bars open around here past 10 (UGH) we have at times been "forced" to stop in. All 4 times have been extremely middle of the road based on the total wait time to be greeted and served. For such a small space, I dont think it is at all acceptable to wait 10 minutes to have your drink order taken. Aside from that little tidbit, there is really nothing else that made my experiences particularly bad, but then again, there is nothing that made it particularly good either!

This was our second time here and probably the last. Our first visit to this restaurant the waitress took my 14 yr old son's order incorrectly. He ate it anyway due to our time crunch. Fish tacos and said they were just ok. Service was poor, waitress unfriendly. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and portobello mushrooms, very good! Second visit, we waited a loooong time for our food and there were only 3 tables seated in the entire place! Too long a wait for an empty restaurant. My sons burger was described by him as "bad". He couldn't describe it any other way. My salad was good once again. Service by this waitress was much better. Friendly, attentive. Just cannot recommend this place. Sorry!

The service is so bad it's almost impressive! Every single time we go, service is awful which is a shame because the food is very good. Never go here if you are on your lunch break from work. You will not get back on time! My husband works right across the street and is always sweating it by the end of lunch. We won't be going back for his lunch break unless we finally have a decent experience with service. When we go it isn't even that crowded so there's not a good excuse for being so awful.

  • Dawn C.

Very disappointed. We ordered 2 beers ( a Pilsner for him, an IPA for me), then we told 5 minutes later that BOTH those kegs just "blew". Moving on we ordered the stuffed mushroom which were delish at the same time we ordered our entrees. 30 minutes later I was informed that they didn't have an ingredient needed for my meal... At the same time they were bringing my husbands meal ( which he reports is, "not that great"). The only reason they're getting more than 1 star is for that beautiful mushroom.... Never again...

How is this place still in business. Every time I'm in it's operated by 16-17yrs olds. Go in for drinks tonight. "Can you tell me the imports on draft?" "Ummmmm, I can tell you all the beers on draft...... Bud, Bud Light, etc, etc." Seriously? You work the bar and you don't even know what an Import is? This area desperately needs a good bar/pub. Truman's exists because there isn't one.

It's been awhile since we've been here and this will be our last time. For a Saturday night it was very empty, which should have been our first clue. The bartender was prompt at first but often distracted talking to friends at the other end of the bar. The female bartender that took over also seemed more interested in her friends. Between the two of them service is one star. Onion strings and burger were good. Fish tacos were not as good as they used to be, very bland. The fish did not have any grilled flavor, the edamame salad was also bland. Too bad they let this place go downhill.

Today my daughter and I went to have lunch at Trumans. I ordered a coffee which did not taste good so the waitress returned it. She said it was freshly brewed so I'm not sure what went wrong but it didn't do anything for my taste buds. Maybe I'm just spoiled by specialty coffee. I ordered fish and chips and my daughter ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. Her sandwich was good. My fish was okay but it was very heavily battered. I peeled the better off in the fish was actually really good. The french fries were good and hot. An overall decent experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Trumans last night. Although the menu offers typical bar food, I had a delicious salad full of fresh greens and moist chicken breast. By far, the highlight was the trivia contest. The host is excellent and the competition was fun and friendly. However, the management needs to be better prepared for the popularity of trivia night. The dining room and bar were completely understaffed. See you next Tuesday.

First off I'd like to say I've eaten here 7 times and the food has always been awesome and fresh. The service is always lacking but they are aware of this issue and are working hard to find a solution. I've had the burger and it's awesome. The chicken sandwich blackened with bacon and cheese is my favorite! They have really good french fries and I enjoyed their Cole slaw and I really don't like Cole slaw. Also the clam chowder is seriously the best I've ever eaten! I think it should win an award or some kind of recognition. So simply put. Go for the food...it's really good. But be patient with the service. You'll have to ask for refills and you won't get much attention after you get your food. That's unless you sit at the bar and then you'll be well taken care of. But that makes sense because your sitting right in front of your server the whole time! Jason the manager/owner is the best. Nicest guy ever and he cares about the restaurant and it shows. Also we spoke to Josh when he brought our food out and he was great to visit with as well and was very helpful in supplementing for the absence of our server.

Decided to try this because it's close to our house. We loved the small menu because that usually indicates a restaurant that's serious about doing just a few things very well. I'm sorry to say that's not the case. We went about 5:30 on a weekday and there were just a few people in the restaurant, which was surprising considering the time of day and it's still snowbird season. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly. They didn't have a cocktail menu so we asked for a recommendation on any fruity rum drink. The server was at a loss, but finally came up with a suggestion for a rum runner, which I didn't particularly enjoy. No stars off for that since it's my fault I don't know the name of fruity rum drinks. I'm usually just perfectly happy with whatever sweet drink they bring me. But this had an odd chemical flavor. I don't know if that's normal with a rum runner or not... Despite his lack of drink knowledge, the server was friendly, quick, and tried to be helpful. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and my husband ordered wings and fries. His meal was strictly average while mine was a disaster. I've never sent a meal back at any restaurant in my 47 years, but I had no choice with this meal. The meatloaf had the consistency of pudding. Really, very bad. I tried to eat it because this was just a quick after-work meal and I wasn't expecting much, I just wanted to get a full tummy and go home. But I couldn't manage more than two bites. The mashed potatoes were passable dry/flake mixture with a brown salty gravy. The server was polite and apologized. He sent the manager over who offered anything else from the kitchen but by this time I'd lost my appetite. To their credit they did take it off the bill after seeing I hadn't consumed more than a couple bites, but what I really wanted was an edible meal, not a refund! The location, service, and ambiance were all good. Now if they can just find a chef who doesn't serve hospital food...

Third time at Truman's. It will be the last. 3 strikes ur out. Every visit got progressively worse. Service is non existent. They get ur orders wrong they don't fill ur drinks. There is zero attention to the little things. Great service trumps crappy food all the time. Sadly the food was horrible too. Management doesn't even care if ur dissatisfied. While I was there four other tables around mine were also very disappointed and disgusted. It's a shame. This place could have been pretty good.. But they just don't care..

Dark, poor service (unless you sit at the bar) and a limited , unimaginative menu. Better places nearby

It's ok. Nothing special. The food is decent, service is good, but it doesn't have a fun atmosphere or anything else to make it stand out.

Why 3 stars? Because meh. --- --- --- Checked out Truman's recently because of its proximity to my fiance's parents house. Nothing really stood out to make it a remarkable experience. It was a typical burger and a sports bar/Chili's type of restaurant. My one direct complaint is that my burger had BBQ sauce all over the outside of the bun. It made it incredibly messy, and impossible to contain. I didn't dislike it as much as many other Yelpers, but I doubt I'd be back.
